PhD study at IDE

As a creative profession, industrial design engineering is concerned with the design of sustainable and durable products for people and society, which typically appear as artefacts or artefact-service combinations. However, industrial design engineering is also an evolving academic discipline, which is developing its own body of knowledge, research and design methods as well as practice. The faculty’s research groups participate in many international collaborative projects. The main topics of research are featured on the research website.

As a PhD student you get to be an active part of a research environment at the highest level. Your peers will be many and you will have the opportunity to expand your personal network to include internationally acclaimed experts within your field of research.

As a PhD student you have the opportunity to get involved in activities such as:

• Conducting research and disseminating research results by writing articles and books
• Actively participating in one or more research environments
• Participating in and possibly even arranging conferences, seminars and workshops in the Netherlands and abroad
• Teaching and supervising Bachelor’s and Master’s degree students
